If you don't know who Mercy Macjoe is then you are probably living under a rock. The star actress is best known for her roles in Jenna and Magdalene and is a pure delight to watch on screen.
Macjoe began her film career in 2011, with a role in the movie Lonely Princess alongside veteran actor Mercy Johnson, and featured in a considerable number of Ghanaian movie productions.
She finally got her breakthrough in 2018 when her performance as a tomboy in the movie Jenna received rave reviews and attention from fans and critics alike. Since then, she has been gracing our screens consistently with stellar performances in films Midnight Crew, Zenith of Love, Shame, Bread of Life, Girl Next Door and Flaws.
In 2018, she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award at the City People Awards and received the award for Best Independent Short Film at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards in 2019.
The actress decided to take her acting career a step further by enrolling at the New York Film Academy earlier this year, so we just may be seeing less of her for the time being. Not to worry though, here three movies she recently starred in:
#1. Thirty and Single
Thirty and Single tells the story of Ada, who starts to feel disconnected with life after her 30th birthday. She turns to social media and stumbles on a meme that says her soulmate is one of her last ten boyfriends which sends her into a frenzy, trying to reconnect with all of them to find out who will be "the one".
The movie was produced by Macjoe herself, who also stars in it, and was shot in London. Other stars include Daniel Lloyd, Mary Uche, Darlene Odogbili, and Nkechi Nnaji. Thirty and Single premiered on Airtel TV in April 2020.
#2. Love in a Puff
In Love in a Puff, Macjoe plays the wife of an author and public figure whose best-selling book is inspired by their daughter's demise. They are soon caught up in a marital squabble that causes the decay of their once loving marriage.
Like Thirty and Single, Macjoe both produced and starred in the film, alongside Mofe Duncan, Darlene Odogbili, Stephen Damian. The movie was directed by Okey Ifeanyi, and will be available to stream on upcoming streaming service, Hissbox, this September.
#3. When Love Dies
Last but definitely not the least is When Love Dies, a drama about a woman who dies shortly after defrauding a company of 100 million naira, leaving her husband alone to bare the consequences of her actions.
Released in 2019, the movie stars Mercy Macjoe, Ray Emordi, Anthony Monjaro and Darlene Odogbili, and is available to watch on Ibaka TV.
All three movies are proudly distributed by TWS Distribution. We are proud of Mercy and we wish her the very best of luck at the New York Film Academy, where she follows in the footsteps of the likes of Stephanie Linus, who is also an alumnus of the school.
